About Jessica Jordan
Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, Jessica Jordan currently lives and works in the Hudson River Valley region as an artist and high school art teacher.
Jessica studied art & education at SUNY New Paltz, earning her BS in Visual Arts Education and her BFA in Ceramics in 2012. She then went on to earn her MAT in Visual Arts Education from Manhattanville College in 2017.
As an artist, Jessica enjoys working in a variety of media, including clay, paint, ink, fiber, & photography. Whether it 2D or 3D, sculptural or functional, Jessica creates abstracted compositions with a quiet minimalism. Much of her work is created through her love for science and the natural world; inspired by the systems, connections, and relationships she observes. Jessica’s current work is an investigation into botanical studies as she creates one-of-a-kind monoprints by inking and pressing plants.
As an art teacher, Jessica strives to inspire her students to become well-rounded, active, 21st century citizens. She works with students to develop self-directed courses of study and meaningful individual growth. Jessica is currently teaching Studio Art & Drawing at White Plains High School in White Plains, New York.
Artist Statement
Making work helps me further understand the world. I wish to inspire others to look deeper, see the details often overlooked, and appreciate the world around them.
The fragility of life rests at the foundation of my work. Delicate relationships, connections, and processes constantly surprise and influence me. My creative process starts with an appreciation of the physical world around me, by which I then try to investigate and understand it in every way I can. Through this research and the act of creating, I react and solidify this understanding with abstracted compositions & forms. Much like how the world itself is made up of tiny intricate nuances, my work focuses on these qualities, as I consider the details that make up the whole.
